The 17th annual Award and Induction Dinner of The National Academy of Popular Music/Songwriters Hall of Fame was held in New York City in 1986.
This year's six inductees included rock n' roll legends Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly (a posthumous inductee) as well as Jimmy Webb, Marvin Hamlisch, and Felice Bryant and Boudleaux Bryant. Award recipients included Mitchell Parish (the Johnny Mercer Award), Leonard Feist (the Abe Olman Publisher Award) and Jule Styne (the Board of Directors Award).
