The 16th annual Award and Induction Dinner of The National Academy of Popular Music/Songwriters Hall of Fame was held in New York City in 1985.
The 10 inductees in the 'Class of '85' included the prolific and profoundly influential rock n' roll partners Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, as well as such accomplished songwriters as Charles Strouse and Gene DePaul. Alan Jay Lerner received the Johnny Mercer Award and John Hammond was presented with the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award.
