Travis Nilan (SESAC)

Abe Olman Scholarship, 2014

Travis Nilan is quickly emerging as a must-see artist in the New York scene. Combining catchy, unforgettable melodies with his intricate, upbeat arrangements and lush harmonies, Travis has a natural gift for writing songs that make you feel good. His debut EP, “These Are The Days”, is an excellent showcase of his songwriting and vocal skills.

Though originally moving to New York City to pursue a career in acting, Travis would eventually find himself auditioning with much less frequency, instead staying home to write songs on his guitar.  Where acting was something of a dream for him, songwriting was an addiction that he simply could not stop.  With an old microphone and some newly purchased recording software, Travis quickly wrote and recorded his first demo, “The Bedroom Sessions”.  Sending it out to every venue in the city, he lined up his first show at The Living Room on the Lower East Side, where his “addiction” would manifest itself as passion and raw talent.

Fast forward, and Travis’ recent debut release, “These Are The Days” has gifted him with accolades and new fans at New York institutions such as The Bitter End, Cafe Wha?, Rockwood Music Hall and Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory.  Always writing, Travis looks to make 2014 an important milestone in giving him exposure beyond the Hudson River.
