Sydney Wayser (ASCAP)

Abe Olman Scholarship, 2014

Sydney Wayser is a French-American, L.A based singer-songwriter who plays guitar, piano and children’s toys.

CLARA-NOVA, is a name and concept that struck Wayser in a dream, and is her newly formed project to follow her last album as Sydney Wayser, titled Bell Choir Coast, which received fantastic acclaim following its release in March 2012. Musical exploration had already pushed the L.A. native onto a pantheon of Franco-American influences, from Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel and Charlotte Gainsbourg to John Lennon and Jeff Buckley.

Pulling inspiration from deep sea dance parties, ancient Egyptian ritual and Martian folklore, the upcoming project CLARA-NOVA sets forth an otherworldly sound, grounded in the earthy intensities of the human experience.

Wayser has toured with Kaki King, performed multiple headline and residency shows, and played festivals such as South by Southwest, Canadian music fest, Wanderlust, and most recently at Sundance Film Festival. She was featured on Last Call with Carson Daly in 2012, where she discussed filming nervously in an open door aircraft for the video “Wolf Eyes”, under her brother Julian’s direction.

She is a proud member of ASCAP, and has been exploring various songwriting, recording and composing sessions with great success. Some of Wayser’s work has recently appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, MTV’s Catfish, The Real World and Shameless, to mention a few.

Wayser is currently in the studio recording the debut material for CLARA-NOVA .
