Abe Olman Scholarship, 2020

Rhea Raj is a 20 year old pop singer, songwriter, and producer from NYC. She first fell in love with music in her mother’s home studio, where she learned classical Indian and Bollywood dance from the age of 2. Exposure to global music is still a main source of inspiration for Rhea, who blends powerful pop sounds with textures drawn from her international background. She continues to feel through her body and uses dance to bring her music to life on stage.

At just 15 years old, Rhea received her first major platform when she auditioned for the farewell season of American Idol. Her performance aired and was praised by Jennifer Lopez, who said, “Your voice matches your vibe, matches how you look… it’s all working for me.” Shortly after, Rhea’s YouTube covers were featured on MTV, Glamour Magazine, and shared by artists like Bebe Rexha and Kim Petras. She spent the next several years exploring various musical pursuits, becoming an active topliner in the EDM scene and collaborating with artists, rappers, and producers from around the world. These songs were released through labels like Sony, Armada, and Future House Music and played on radio shows of DJs including Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, and Nicky Romero.

In 2019, Rhea launched her solo career, releasing “2AM” with LA based producer UpsideDown and a pop/r&b single “You’re a Star.” Both were accompanied with music videos and received support on BBC Radio 1. Her latest songs “Overdose” and "Go Down" are out now.
