Below is the first wave of SongHall workshops scheduled to warm the winter months:

SongHall Writers Workshop “A” Winter 2009

8 Sessions / 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM / Wednesdays
Classes meet on February 4, 11. 18. 25 & March 4, 11, 18, 25
LOCATION: Penthouse at SHETLER STUDIOS, 244 West 54th St., 12th Floor (Bdwy & 8th Ave)
Workshop Goal: To strengthen the songwriting skill set and bring the emerging writer closer to the music industry through workshop sessions with hit songwriters and industry professionals in publishing, music licensing and A&R.

Workshop: The Songwriter In The Recording Studio

LOCATION: PLANET STUDIOS, 244 West 54th St., Suite 800A (Bdwy & 8th Ave)
Saturday, March 7th, 2009 10 AM – 5:00 PM /1 Day Intensive Workshop
This 1 day intensive workshop led by instructor David Greenberg will be held in a recording studio will focus on many aspects of the recording process as it directly relates to the songwriter.  The goal of this workshop is to provide a better understanding of this process and will ultimately save studio hours and demo budget dollars while achieving the best results.

Workshop: “This Songwriting Business”

1 Day Intensive / 10AM-5PM / Saturday, March 28th, 2009
LOCATION: Penthouse at SHETLER STUDIOS, 244 West 54th St.,12th Floor (Bdwy & 8th Ave)
Workshop Goal: To provide the “must know” information every songwriter needs to manage, negotiate, make informed decisions, and succeed in this BUSINESS called MUSIC!
Curriculum: This workshop led by Marcy Drexler will cover the importance and procedure in copyrighting songs, coming to agreements with co-writers, performance rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC), their function, and the differences between them. All aspects of the songwriting income stream, publishing agreements,
the types of royalties paid from different sources will be covered along with the importance of independent music supervisors, film and TV sync licenses in today’s world of popular music.  Source materials will be distributed.

Eric Beall Will Speak At SongHall Networking Group Meeting
Tuesday, February 3rd, 6 - 8:30 PM Open to all! A free event!
Featuring a special presentation at 6:30 PM by Eric Beall / A&R Shapiro Bernstein on the release of his new book, “The Billboard Guide To Writing and Producing Songs That Sell”.  Eric will share some of the ideas and strategies in the text followed by a Q & A session.  There will be books on hand at a discount for SongHall members!
Before and after the presentation is networking time!!!  Make new connections and grow your network to expand your music’s reach! Bring your iPods w/headphones with your songs and /or tracks to share. Demo producers; bring CD demos and business cards to hand out. Workshop Alumni; get together and share your music and your progress!  Projects Coordinator Peter Bliss will be on hand to answer questions and will also talk about the upcoming SongHall workshops, showcases, and events.
