At the third in Songhall’s new “Meet the Songwriters” series, multi-platinum hit songwriter Makeba Riddick shared her passion and joy of music with a crowd of eager songwriters. A very short list of Makeba’s hits include her favorite songs, Jennifer Lopez’ “All I Have,” Beyonce’s “Deja Vu” and Rihanna’s “Push Up On Me.” The event began with a heartfelt introduction by Francesca Spero, Senior Vice President Publishing, Producer Management and Special Projects for Bad Boy Entertainment. Francesca talked about meeting Makeba years ago and immediately
recognizing her special writing talent. She approached Sean “P Diddy” Coombs and Makeba soon joined the Bad Boy family, racking up hit after hit.
Makeba discussed traveling all around the world to jump into writing sessions with some of today’s hottest acts and producers. Whether writing hooks around drum loops or finished music tracks, her gift of lyric and melody add to the hits that rule the music world today. Makeba shared with us the work of her Adorable Foundation in giving
back to her community in native Baltimore and New York.
The evening continued with a spirited question and answer period, and concluded with a feeling
of magic.
