The Bushwick Book Club

There is a place in Brooklyn where songwriters know no fear. These songwriters conjure songs from a different literary work each month and share them in front of an astounded audience at Goodbye Blue Monday - a Bushwick venue brave enough to be home to such obscene creativity. The 2009 Bushwick Book Club CD features 34 musicians and over 50 songs inspired by such books as Breakfast of Champions (Kurt Vonnegut), What We Talk About When We Talk About Love (Raymond Carver), Flatland (Edwin Abbott), The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Milan Kundera), Watchmen (Alan Moore), James and The Giant Peach (Roald Dahl), No One Belongs Here More Than You (Miranda July), The Bible (various people), A Confederacy of Dunces (John Kennedy Toole), short stories by Matt Colbourne and Aaron Hartman and On the Origin of Species (Charles Darwin). The CD will be released in early 2010. The first Bushwick Book Club show of the new year, at Goodbye Blue Monday, of course, will be on Tuesday, January 5th. The featured book for that night is Cat’s Cradle (Kurt Vonnegut). Come hear the songs and enjoy the Vonnegut inspired snacks and drink special.
