Legendary Songwriter Glenn Frey To Be Guest At Songwriters Hall Of Fame Master Sessions At NYU

Jimmy Webb, Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF), and Robert Rowe, Director of the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development, jointly announced that legendary songwriter/artist and SHOF inductee Glenn Frey will be the guest at the next Songwriters Hall of Fame Master Sessions at NYU on October 25th. The event, which is free and open to the NYU community, members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the music community, will take place at 7 PM at NYU’s Frederick Loewe Theatre at the Steinhardt School, 35 West 4th Street.

Frey is one of the world’s most admired and respected songwriter/artists, both as a solo artist and for his work as co-founder and seminal songwriter for the Eagles. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000, and along with the Eagles, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

The Master Sessions, a feature of songwriting studies at NYU Steinhardt and part of the ongoing educational activities of the Hall, were launched earlier this year with Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Jimmy Webb as the inaugural guest.

“We are thrilled that Glenn Frey will be the guest at our upcoming Master Session at NYU,” said SHOF Chairman Webb.  “He has contributed dozens of songs to the canon of modern American popular music, and his indelible vocals have imbued these compositions with an emotional power that has made them resonate with generations. We are excited to be offering insights into his remarkable achievements to the students of NYU and the members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.” Webb will introduce Frey at the Master Session.

“NYU is honored to welcome Glenn Frey to our second Master Session collaboration with the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Certainly his artistry, experience, and musicianship will be of enormous interest to our students in many of our programs, from composition and songwriting to music business, music technology, and beyond,” said Robert Rowe.

With a focus on the art and craft of songwriting, but covering a wide range of topics relevant to students of the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, the series features one major figure from music and the music industry each session. Many of the guests – as with Webb and Frey - will be illustrious members of the SHOF, who are the most celebrated and influential songwriters of the past fifty years.

The Master Sessions are part lecture, part performance, and part in-depth interview, concluding with a Q&A. The Master Sessions are organized and moderated by GRAMMY-nominated songwriter Phil Galdston (Save the Best For Last), a member of NYU’s Artists’ Faculty for five years.  He has also just been named the first member of the School’s songwriting faculty, as well as Songwriter-in-Residence. His work at Steinhardt includes the development of a soon-to-be-announced Concentration in Songwriting, as part of the graduate Music Composition program.
