Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame Launch

A group of veteran music industry professionals have created the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame and will announce 24 nominees on Nov. 27, according to a spokesperson for the newly established nonprofit.
 
The Miami-based organization, being led by award-winning producer/songwriters; SHOF inductee Desmond Child and Rudy Pérez along with a board of directors, will announce five inductees on April 23 during the same week as the Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards in Miami.
 
“We want to celebrate Latin songwriters around the world in every genre,” group chairman/CEO Child tells Billboard.biz. Pérez will serve as the president.
 
Child said that the group’s mission is to educate, preserve honor and celebrate the legacy of Latin songwriters while reaching out to new composers through workshops, showcases, scholarships and digital initiatives. The organization is already in talks with television executives to find a home for an awards show in addition to finding a location for a museum based in Miami.
 
Other board directors, committee members and volunteers include Eddy Cue, Zach Horowitz, Martin Bandier, Freddy DeMann, Phil Ramone, Sergio George, Jellybean Benitez, Charlie Cinnamon and Angela Rodriguez.
 
The list also includes Marco Bissi, Greg McBowman, Betsy Perez, Olga Maria Touzet Guillot, John LoFrumento, Linda Moran, Karen Sherry, Willard Ahdritz, Emilio Estefan, Giancarlo Guerrero, Evan Lamberg, Hartwig Masuch, Tommy Page (Billboard publisher), Phil Ramone, Seymour Stein and Leila Cobo (Billboard’s executive director of Latin content and programming), among others.
