JUNE 13, 2019 – NEW YORK CITY

New York, NY – April 9, 2019 – Halsey will be the recipient of the eminent Hal David Starlight Award, at the 50th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner slated for Thursday, June 13th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

The Hal David Starlight Award, created in 2004, was named in honor of SHOF Chairman Emeritus Hal David, for his longtime support of young songwriters.  Award recipients are gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs.  Halsey, a Universal Music Group Publishing writer, joins the distinguished company of Sara Bareilles, Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas, Nate Ruess, Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, Drake, Benny Blanco, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Rob Thomas and John Rzeznik.

SHOF Chair Nile Rodgers commented, “I’ve watched Halsey grow over the last five years and every record seems to be better than the last one, so I’m delighted that she’s being recognized in this much deserved way.”

President & CEO Linda Moran added, “Halsey bares her soul with heart-wrenching, rebellious and complex lyrics that come from a place of creativity and strength where not many songwriters are comfortable going. She is more than worthy to join the roster of the young songwriters who have received the coveted Hal David Starlight Award.”

GRAMMY® Award-nominated multi-platinum singer/songwriter Halsey claimed the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 with her second release, hopeless fountain kingdom, an album for which she wrote or co-wrote every song and wrote every lyric on, one that Rolling Stone called “bold” in a 4-star review, claiming that “Halsey could go anywhere from here.” Since storming on the music scene in 2015, she has garnered over 7 billion streams globally, 8 million global sales, has had 18 RIAA certified songs, is just shy of 100 million track sales, and has graced the covers of magazines including Nylon, Billboard, Glamour, and Forbes among others.

The success of Halsey’s songwriting shows there are no signs of her slowing down. In the fall of 2018 she released her 3x Platinum hit single, "Without Me," which became her first solo song to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.  “Without Me,” which Halsey co-wrote, has more than 700 million combined streams and also reached number 1 on the iTunes charts.  It came on the heels of the 2x Multi-Platinum-certified hit “Eastside,” which she co-wrote and performed with Benny Blanco and Khalid. The track garnered 300 million streams worldwide in just 2 months. “Eastside” was the follow up to the 2x Multi-Platinum-certified smash “Him & I,” which marked another co-written hit to reach #1, this time on Billboard’s Pop Songs Airplay Chart at Top 40 radio. “Him & I” has accrued over 750 million streams worldwide and has been certified Platinum in several countries, making the track her second #1 since accompanying The Chainsmokers on “Closer.” “Closer” dominated the charts for 11 weeks, has been certified Diamond by the RIAA, and was nominated for a 2017 GRAMMY® for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance." She is also an accredited songwriter on her own 3x Multi-Platinum “Bad At Love” and 2x Multi-Platinum “Now or Never”, which both peaked in the top 3 at Top 40 Radio. In addition to hopeless fountain kingdom, Halsey co-wrote every song and wrote every lyric on her debut full-length album BADLANDS, which landed at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and was also certified Platinum by the RIAA within one year of its release.

Halsey continues to push creative boundaries expanding her influence and impact beyond music. She wrote and delivered a speech at the 2018 women’s march advocating equality and she uses her voice to speak up for causes she passionately believes in including disenfranchised youth, women’s rights, mental health and the LGBTQ community, demonstrating that both she and her music can affect meaningful change. She also wrote and delivered the key note speech at Glamour’s 2018 Women of the Year event.

Most recently, Halsey made her film debut in the animated summer movie Teen Titans Go! as the voice of Wonder Woman, as well as in A Star Is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Halsey continues to prove she is a force to be reckoned with.
