SHOF Chairman/CEO Hal David will be the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate degree given by the Entertainment Industry Gallery of Honor at Five Towns College on Wednesday, October 17th at 12 noon. Mr. David, the lyrical half of one of the best-known and productive songwriting teams of our time had a multitude of hits with composer Burt Bacharach that include Wishin’ and Hopin,’ Don’t Make Me Over, Message to Michael, Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, Alfie, What’s New Pussycat, The Look of Love, Wives and Lovers, Casino Royale, I’ll Never Fall in Love Again, It Was Almost Like a Song, This Guy’s in Love with You, Anyone Who Had a Heart, Promises, Promises, Do You Know the Way to San Jose, A House Is Not a Home, Walk on By and Trains and Boats and Planes. It has been stated that another of the teams songs, What The World Needs Now, should be the national anthem.
Also receiving honors that day will be the late SHOF president emeritus Sammy Cahn, along with SHOF board member Irwin Robinson who is Chairman of Paramount Allegra Music, four- time Tony Award winner Stewart F. Lane who is president and CEO of Stellar Productions International, Inc. and Stewart F. Lane Productions, Inc. and Ben Vereen; actor, indefatigable showman and preeminent song-and-dance man.
Dr. Stanley Cohen, Co-founder and President of the College, will confer a Doctor of Music (Mus.D.) to Mr. Cahn, Mr. David and Mr. Vereen and Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D.) to Mr. Robison and Mr. Lane at the Dix Hills Center for the Performing Arts at Five Towns College. A performance will follow featuring the Five Towns College Concert Pops and FTC Choir.
