Fall Workshops In Progress!!

The Songwriter In The Recording Studio will be taught by David Greenberg. This one day intensive workshop on Saturday, November 3rd, will be held in a recording studio and will focus on many aspects of the recording process as it directly relates to the songwriter.  The goal of this workshop is to provide a better understanding of this process and will ultimately save studio hours and demo budget dollars while achieving the best results. Meet The Songwriters will consist of a series of with a different established songwriter guest at each one. We will hear their perspective on the industry, the craft of songwriting and how they contributed to the vital force that is contemporary song today!  There is a story behind every song and a career path that led each of them to success. What was their first big break? How did they make it happen? How do they approach their songwriting? Who are the songwriters they admire? We will play their songs and discover their process and songcraft. This four week series is so popular, we have had to open it up to enable more of our members to attend. The following is the schedule of special speakers:

Julie Gold – 10/18 - is a New York City Songwriter best known for Bette Midler’s version of her song “From A Distance,” which won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1991. She has also written songs for Patti LaBelle, Patti LuPone (who used Gold’s song “Heaven” as her grand finale in her one woman show
on Broadway), Kathy Mattea, The Byrds, Judy Collins, James Galway, Lea Salonga, Cliff Richard, Frances Black and many others. Nanci Griffith has also recorded Gold’s songs “Heaven,” “Southbound Train,” and “Good Night.”

Peter Zizzo – 10/25 - is a songwriter/producer/musician whose A&R instincts have led him to discover and develop Avril Lavigne, Vanessa Carlton and Toby Lightman. Most recently, Peter is developing 2 new acts, one of which, Pixie, has been signed to Island Records by LA Reid. Peter’s writing credits include Celine Dion, J Lo, Toby Lightman, Avril Lavigne, Jason Mraz, M2M and Howie Day.

Makeba Riddick – 11/8 - boasts a portfolio of writing credits that includes Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Tony Braxton and Janet Jackson. Whether its Beyonce’s female anthem, “Upgrade You” or Jennifer Lopez’s musical career defining number one single “All I have,” Makeba has quietly churned out hits at a
blistering pace. Her intense work ethic and efficiency has made her a favorite to work with among top rated producers such as Swizz Beatz, Rodney Jerkins and Scott Storch.

Andy Marvel – 11/15 is a New York City based Songwriter/Producer. He has had his songs on albums that have sold over 70 million copies. Credits include Celine Dion (Grammy Album of the Year), Diana King (#1 song “Shy Guy” in 14 countries), Jessica Simpson (“With You,” # 1 billboard Pop and R&R, ASCAP
Pop Award), Brian McKnight (singing his song “When We Were Kings” for Oscar winning Documentary of the same name), Jon Secada, Maxi Priest, Dream, Jessica Andrews, Eternal, and Patti Austin.
