The Songwriters Hall of Fame is thrilled that our 2002 Abe Olman Scholar, John Stephens, who went on to receive the 2007 Hal David Starlight Award under his professional name, John Legend, was honored with Best Original Song for “Glory” from the movie Selma at last night’s Oscars, along with his cowriter, Common.
The performance of the powerful song was a moving highlight of the evening, bringing the audience to tears and then to their feet in a thunderous ovation. His acceptance speech was a defining moment and we applaud his passion and his supreme talent.
