The Abe Olman Scholarships, named after one of the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s esteemed founders, have been given out each year, one recipient each chosen by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SGA and SHOF. These scholarships are awarded to up-and-coming songwriters who have exhibited a standard of excellence and deserve to be recognized.
The Holly Prize, a new scholarship made possible by Songmasters as a tribute to SHOF inductee Buddy Holly, will be awarded the same evening. The Holly Prize will recognize and support talented new singer/songwriters whose work exhibits the qualities of Holly’s music: true, great and original. The first recipient will be a gifted and deserving young songwriter and performer named Laura Warshauer.
The evening will begin with the scholarships being awarded, after which we will celebrate the release of our Best of the Songwriters Hall of Fame New Writers Showcase CD, Volume 8. This compilation includes a song by each of the Abe Olman Scholarship recipients, along with those by SongHall members who were chosen from our showcases from the previous year. All will have the opportunity to perform their song, and in addition, the CD will be handed out at the door to the first 50 who attend!
