May Mania! SHOF Unveils Online Forum! New Workshops Begin!

Share:

The Songwriters Hall of Fame is excited to announce the launch of an interactive new Forum, as part of our songhall.org website! Usually available only to SHOF members, we are opening it up to everyone for a limited time. The Forum provides a community of ideas and networking, as well as a much-needed sounding board for songwriters. Special guest moderators will drop in from time to time to host a Q&A…. and you can get the scoop on our new workshops with interaction from our instructors!

Forum topics will include the following:

Songwriting: Talk about the writing process and network with your peers.

The Biz: Discuss the ins and outs of the music industry and the business of marketing your music.

Collaboration: Team up with songwriters and musicians in your area.

Lyrics: Post and discuss song lyrics here. Find out if you have an inner poet!

Recommended Resources: Share your favorite link, books and other ways you and others can exchange vital information.

There is a special Forum section you can go to and ask questions about our May workshops. You’ll actually get feedback from our instructors! Descriptions of the new courses are as follows:

Professional Songwriting “Boot Camp,” with Billy Sideman:

This workshop empowers students by accelerating their songwriting skills through special materials and assignments developed exclusively for THE SONG WRITERS HALL OF FAME SONGWRITING BOOTCAMP. Three to four weeks into the eight-week course, students begin to notice and distinguish the numerous smart decisions hit songwriters make and begin applying them to their own songs. The comprehensive class includes weekly writing assignments, critiques, song analysis, live demonstrations, live performance, visits from industry pros and a healthy, supportive environment to explore, take chances and excel. Begins May 17th – 6pm-8pm

Mastering The Music Business Maze, with Marcy Drexler:

This workshop will cover the “song” (melody, structure, lyrics) from the viewpoints of a music publisher, a music supervisor for film and television, and a record company A&R rep. Topics covered will include publishing and performing rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC); packaging and marketing (bios, photos, press kits), copyrighting and networking. Important source materials will be distributed. A high-level industry executive will be a special guest who will speak about the current state of the music business and listen to songs by workshop attendees.

Begins May 16th – 6:30pm-8:30pm
