Karen Lloyd - The Hourglass
Karen Lloyd is a multifaceted singer/songwriter who has been working as a musician in NYC long enough now to consider herself a native! She has been writing and performing music her whole life, starting on the piano at age 3 and by the age of 12 aspired to be a concert pianist, winning several national classical piano competitions during high school. Her desire to be part of a happening music scene led her to NY after college where she has made her living solely as a musician since her arrival - learning how to wear many hats as a singer, musician, performer. She has had the priviledge of touring with both Billy Joel and Elton John, singing backgrounds with them on their “Face to Face” tour, as well as going out with Enrique Iglesias as the tour’s vocal MD and assistant choreographer to Toni Basil.
The highlight on the Enrique tour was singing the Whitney Houston duet “Could I have this kiss Forever” every night on stage with him – very theatrical! She has also enjoyed performing with: Garth Brooks, Celine Dion, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Trisha Yearwood, Jessica Simpson, Marc Anthony, Michael Feinstein, Rosie O’Donnell, and even Donny Osmond. Other hats that Karen wears are that of an industrial singer/performer, lead singer in a society orchestra, and jingle/session singer - you may have heard her on the new Doublemint twins commercials. Fun fact : Karen is also the VO voice on the escalators in Penn Station.
As a songwriter, she has always been inspired by the Beatles, Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Led Zeppelin, and Billy Joel, as well as Chopin and Debussy which she grew up playing. One of her songs, “Conversations” landed in the top 5 in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest several years ago and another song, “Headin for Home” has the honor of being the featured track on a new indy film “Upstate”. Karen is currently recording a new group of songs that combine some of the flavors of her favorite artists as well as infusing it with a hint of the classical music background that is a part of her as a pianist. She is grateful to be a part of this wonderful CD promoting great new artists and looks forward to sharing more music in the future!
